At SUNY Oneonta, it’s not difficult to live up to at all, but they still recognize the importance of what they do day in and day out. Three core values that support their mission is inclusivity, service and committing to making a difference in the lives of others, and lastly, sustainability, not only a financial and environmental responsibility, but a force that keeps each of us moving toward our personal calling, whatever that may be. Building a reputation solely based on a consistent investment in student’s interests, well-being, and succes is the reason Oneonta is known as a caring campus where students and staff are genuinely friendly. It’s hard to make everyone feel at home, that is hy Oneonta is working hard to establish comfort in their environment. From its humble beginning in 1889, known as the Oneonta Normal School, their values, principles, beliefs, and practices have been woven through the fabric of this school. These important aspects have defined who Oneonta is as an institution and what sets them apart from any other school and gives them a purpose. The college’s pursuit of the vision “to become the exemplar residential community, providing relevant educational experiences in and outside the classroom”, is guided by these core values and beliefs. Oneonta isn’t afraid to challenge the status quo, test assumptions, and ask difficult questions that are relevant and impactful. Understanding the needs of today and tomorrow’s learners, their campus and all the opportunities it can offer around students. Just as students trust and depend on Oneonta to accompany and navigate them past their barriers and obstacles in order to reach their goals, Oneonta trusts them a more just, humane, and happier world.
